A fume hood comprises a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kewaunee.in\/blog\/how-to-select-the-right-fume-hood-for-your-laboratory\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ventilated enclosure<\/a> with baffles to control airflow and a glass door opening allowing the user to access the interior of the hood, while preventing the escape of contaminants (<em>ANSI Z9.5 \u2013 2012<\/em>).<\/p>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"text123\" style=\"text-align: left; font-size: 22px;\">AIRFLOW CHARACTERISTICS OF FUME HOOD<\/h2>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=&#8221;1\/2&#8243;][vc_single_image alignment=&#8221;center&#8221; style=&#8221;vc_box_shadow_border&#8221; image=&#8221;667&#8243;][\/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=&#8221;1\/2&#8243;]<div class=\"boc_spacing \" style=\"height: 20px\"><\/div>[vc_column_text]The airflow characteristics of a fume hood are critical to ensuring proper function. Therefore, it can be supplemented with computer simulation of the airflow. Computational fluid dynamics, or CFD, is a discipline that uses numerical methods to simulate fluid flow.<\/p>\n<p>Since CFD is such a powerful tool to model fume hood testing, a simulated ASHRAE test was performed to show its application to fume hood airflow. Previous research by Sam et al. (2019) focused on airflow patterns in a slot hood. However, slot hoods are not tested to the same standard as fume hoods.
