Laboratory Air Treatment Technologies<\/span><\/h1>[vc_column_text]A wide variety of pollutants lead to indoor air pollution. The pollutants may pose a threat to human health and the environment. In the context of laboratories<\/a>, the indoor air pollution gains prominence due to the hazardous nature of the work carried out in the labs.<\/span><\/p>\n

In the previous blog, we looked at the key design parameters for the laboratory supply and exhaust ducts. In this blog, let\u2019s explore the various air treatment technologies available for consideration to make the laboratories a safe working environment.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Depending on the contaminants in the laboratory, the air treatment technologies required may change. Broadly, the technologies available to achieve acceptable levels of pollutants include fan-powered dilution, filtration, scrubbing, condensing, and oxidation.<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Filtration<\/span><\/td>\nA process that traps particles or gas in a filter that when it fills<\/span><\/p>\n

  • Gas-phase filters<\/b> adsorb gaseous contaminants by Van der Waals forces<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Scrubbers<\/span><\/td>\nScrubbers are air treatment systems that use a liquid to dissolve or react with the gases to be removed.<\/span><\/p>\n

  • Dry scrubber <\/b>uses an alkaline water solution sprayed into an acid airstream<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Wet scrubber <\/b>removes gaseous contaminates by absorption on the water surface<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Particulate scrubber <\/b>removes particles by impingement of the particles onto water droplets<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Condensing<\/span><\/td>\nA process in which gas or vapor in an airstream condenses on a cold<\/span><\/p>\n

surface or on particles in the airstream.<\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

Oxidation<\/span><\/td>\nA treatment that breaks down the contaminant into chemicals that<\/span><\/p>\n
