SEFA Classification for Adaptable Furniture Systems<\/span><\/h1>[vc_column_text]The Scientific Equipment & Furniture Association (SEFA) has been pivotal in ensuring that laboratory equipment and other facilities are always created with the consumer in mind. They have classified furniture based on their adaptability, which helps the consumer understand and choose the best furniture for their laboratory\u2019s needs.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The SEFA 10 Guidelines specifically deal with adaptability of furniture systems and below you can see an infographic detailing the various classes & what differentiates each of them.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Class 2 \u2013 Wall Rail Supported<\/span><\/td>\n\n

  • Wall mounted & cabinet is hung on it<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Railing can support counterbase units<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Casework & worksurface can be hung at different heights<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Class 3 \u2013 Self Supporting Frame<\/span><\/td>\n\n

  • Uses floor supported cantilever frame<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Cabinets & Worksurfaces can be suspended from a height<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Worksurface is independent of cabinet structure<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Class 4 \u2013 Core Based<\/span><\/td>\n\n

  • Uses floor mounted support module<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Provides s self-supporting structure for table frames, upper cabinets, etc.<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Adjustment slots for height variability is present<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Class 5 \u2013 Panel Based<\/span><\/td>\n\n

  • Similar to core-based but use narrow support modules<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Require attachment to overhead structures for support<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Can be used for glass inserts, doors, etc.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Class 6 \u2013 Table Based<\/span><\/td>\n\n

  • Independent floor mounted & self supporting tables<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Used with wall mounted or other upper structures for stability<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Fixed elements are separate \u2013 Easy relocatability<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Class 7 \u2013 Free Standing Workstation<\/span><\/td>\n\n

  • Table based but uses floor mounted systems<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Workstations can be adjustable or fixed height<\/span><\/li>\n
  • They can be preplumbered, prewired, & can be used to suspend cabinets, etc.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Class 8 \u2013 Mobile Workstation<\/span><\/td>\n\n
