Research involving infectious &amp; genetically modified organisms requires the protection of the laboratory personnel, environment, and the community.<\/p>\n<p>Biosafety levels provide protective measures and command the work practices appropriate to the research. Biosafety levels are shields intended to secure research facility, faculty, surrounding climate and community.[\/vc_column_text][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"text123\" style=\"text-align: left; color: #ca2527; font-size: 22px;\">FACTORS DETERMINING BIOSAFETY LEVELS<\/h2>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kewaunee.in\/biosafety-laboratories.php\">Biosafety lab<\/a> levels are determined by these key factors:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Design features &amp; procedures<\/li>\n<li>Severity of infection &amp; transmissibility<\/li>\n<li>Nature of the work conducted<\/li>\n<li>Route of exposure &amp; origin of microbe.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_single_image alignment=&#8221;center&#8221; image=&#8221;1609&#8243;][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"text123\" style=\"text-align: left; color: #ca2527; font-size: 22px;\"><strong>BSL-1: BASIC LAB<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]It is the lowest level of biosafety level dealing with the lab settings in which personnel work with low infectious microbes that pose no serious threat.[\/vc_column_text]<div class=\"boc_spacing \" style=\"height: 20px\"><\/div>[vc_single_image alignment=&#8221;center&#8221; image=&#8221;1608&#8243;][vc_column_text]<strong>Design Requirements:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Mostly the work is led on the open bench using general microbiological practices.<\/li>\n<li>No special feature or design is required in this level and has normal construction, i.e., not separated from other lab sections.<\/li>\n<li>Only mechanical pipetting &#8211; no mouth pipetting is allowed.<\/li>\n<li>Daily decontamination of all work surfaces when work is complete.<\/li>\n<li>Personal protective equipment, i.e., eye protection, gloves, and a lab coat, is necessary.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text]<div class=\"boc_spacing \" style=\"height: 20px\"><\/div>[vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"text123\" style=\"text-align: left; color: #ca2527; font-size: 22px;\"><strong>BSL-2: BASIC LAB + AEROSOL CONFINEMENT SAFETY CABINET<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]It is the second biosafety level dealing with the infectious agents that pose moderate health risk &amp; diseases. These labs are also not separated from other lab sections.
