SEFA 8 - Testing Standards

SEFA 8 is a performance based standard to evaluate Laboratory Casework for safety, durability and structural integrity. It is the only existing international standard designed to specifically insure the quality and performance of laboratory casework.

SEFA 8-M tests:

  • Total load test – Tests the strength and integrity of the cabinet construction.
  • Concentrated load test – Tests the operation of doors and drawers under a concentrated load.
  • Torsion load test – Tests the structural integrity of the cabinet under stress.
  • Door hinge test – Tests the strength of the hinge and attachment to the cabinet. The door must operate freely.
  • Door cycle test – Tests the strength of the hinge and attachment to the cabinet over a life time to use.
  • Drawer static test – Tests the drawer head and drawer hardware for function under a point load.
  • Drawer impact test – Tests the drawer bottom for integrity under impact from falling load.
  • Drawer Internal Rolling impact test – Tests the drawer back and joinery for integrity under impact from falling load.
  • Drawer cycle test - Tests the drawer and hardware for lifetime usage.
  • Chemical resistance testing – Test applies to laboratory grade casework, work surfaces and fixtures. A list of 49 volatile and non-volatile chemicals will be tested on the finished surface.
